Federal Conservation Programs
There are federal opportunities to implement conservation through the Natural Resource Conservation Serivce (NRCS) for agricultural producers. There are two main programs that the District works within to provide federal cost share:
EQIP (Environmental Quality Incentives Program) – This is a robust cost share program that covers a large number of conservation practices such as (but not limited to) irrigation efficiency upgrades, establishing riparian buffers, pre-commercial thinning for forestry and nutrient management.
CREP (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program) – This program provides 75% cost share to re-establish riparian buffers of at least 35 ft in width on creeks and streams. This program also provides a lease payment on the project area to provide incentive to re-establish buffers on farmable ground.
